Low Thyroid & Hashimoto's

If you ask the next five women you meet, one of them has likely been diagnosed with “low thyroid”–also called “hypothyroid.”

Low thyroid is epidemic. (Even Oprah has “low” thyroid.)

Yet even though low thyroid is common and ruins the lives of millions of women...the standard medical care does not work for a surprising number of women.

The medical "standard of care" for any woman with “low thyroid” is to prescribe her replacement thyroid hormones like Synthroid® or Levothyroxine.  Almost never–and I mean never— does the doctor try to determine WHY the woman has low thyroid.

The answer to that question is the key to the puzzle of why you still feel awful. The answer to that question “Why?” will determine whether you ever feel good again, or whether you will continue to feel terrible even though you’re taking the medication and your labs looks “normal.”

Why do YOU have low thyroid?

Here’s the shocking truth your doctor won’t tell you….

In the United States, the #1 cause of low thyroid is an autoimmune condition called

Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.

This means that if you have been diagnosed “low thyroid" or "hypothyroid"—or even "subclinical hypothyroid"—then there’s a VERY good chance you have an autoimmune condition.

Your immune system has turned on you and is targeting your thyroid…killing it…and that attack is causing you to have low thyroid function and suffer low thyroid symptoms such as fatigue, hair loss, depression and weight gain.

When this autoimmune condition is ignored—and the “standard” medical does ignore it—you will  permanently lose more and more of your thyroid gland. Bit by bit, year after year… and you will feel more depression, more fatigue, more like giving up.

The “standard of care” for this problem is giving you replacement thyroid hormones. But this is not really a thyroid hormone problem. That’s not the battle...

This is an immune system battle—an autoimmune battle.

What I’m telling you (and I hope this is sinking in) is the #1 cause of low thyroid in the United States is an autoimmune condition, which is no different than these devastating autoimmune conditions:

  • Multiple Sclerosis

  • Rheumatoid Arthrtis

  • Lupus

Here's the bad news if you're one of the 90% who has Hashimoto's...

Taking replacement thyroid hormones such as Synthroid®, Levoxyl ® or Armour®

will NOT stop this autoimmune attack.

Despite this fact, your endocrinologist is only going to monitor your TSH levels (thyroid stimulating hormone). He’s going to try to make your TSH stay within a certain range on your labs by constantly adjusting the dosage of your medication—no matter how you actually FEEL.

The thing is... TSH levels do not get at the root of your problem. Monitoring and managing your TSH won’t help your autoimmune condition.

Your immune system is the problem.

At my practice I work on balancing and controlling that autoimmune condition. When Hashimoto's gets triggered and your immune system attacks your thyroid, you can’t stop it. You can't just flip a switch. You can’t cure it. But...

You CAN slow it down and feel good again.

If you don’t slow down your autoimmune problem—if you don’t try to squash it, balance and calm down your immune system—it has a nasty habit of spreading and attacking other organs in your body and causing a boatload of problems.

Women with Hashimoto's often end up with pernicious anemia and B12 deficiency (autoimmune attack on the lining of your stomach)...

...next, your pancreas is attacked and you have blood sugar and insulin problems...

...if left untreated, the autoimmune problem can penetrate even further and attack a part of your brain called your cerebellum...

...you’ll end up with vertigo, dizziness and balance problems.

You are probably asking yourself:

“Why is this autoimmune problem ignored?”

The answer: the standard medical model doesn’t care if you have an autoimmune condition or not. You’re still going to get prescribed thyroid hormones.

They don’t know how to specifically help this immune system problem.

I KNOW how to help a woman with Hashimoto’s Autoimmune Thyroiditis.

Working with someone that has Hashimoto’s is simple:

You’ve got to find out how and why—in their particular case—their immune system has gone off the rails.

It’s like putting together a jigsaw puzzle: I look for all the pieces of the puzzle (and there are many)…

...and then I know how to calm down the immune system of a woman suffering with Hashimoto’s so she can feel normal again.

If you know a woman that’s suffering with low thyroid symptoms…

…or a woman diagnosed with Hashimoto’s who’s being forced to endure it

…and she’s taking thyroid medication but still feels bad

…it’s time to find someone who can thoroughly investigate her thyroid problem. Someone who will leave no stone unturned in the quest to discover the cause of her low thyroid symptoms and then eliminate them.
